REVIEW: Bucket Brewery Pawtucket Pail Ale

TL;DR summary : A well rounded pale ale.

Beer style: East Coast Pale Ale
ABV 5.5%
What I paid: $10.29
How it came (packaging): 1 Quart bottle

About the Beer:
Bucket Brewery is one of a small but diverse number of breweries that has opened in Rhode Island in the last five years or so. Their 10 BBL production facility is located in Pawtucket and provides tours, tastings, and local art and music events. I have not visited personally (yet).
On their site, Bucket says this beer has a “toasty, nutty flavor and a satisfying consistency.” They designed this beer to be balanced, not overly bitter, while still retaining the flavorful and aromatic characteristics of the hops.

Color/appearance: deep amber with orange tinge. Thin white head
Aroma:  lightly malty, yeasty.
Mouth feel: substantial, slightly tingly with a slick feel toward the finish
Flavor: Toasty, Lightly malty with slightly bitter finish

Notes:
I bought this beer because the bottle caught my eye. The one quart shape really stood out in the cooler at the shop. I had heard of Bucket in passing, but their distribution seems to still be fairly limited, and I haven’t had the opportunity to make it to the brewery yet. This is a good solid example of a pale ale. It’s got a nice medium body, with a hoppy end note that isn’t over powering. Bucket’s website claims “floral aromas and notes of tangerine.” I didn’t really get that, but I don’t think it detracts at all from the enjoyment I got out of the beer. The alcohol content is a little on the high side to consider it a session beer, but a couple glasses over an evening with friends wouldn’t be overdoing it. Based on this, I need to make my way up to Pawtucket soon to see what else Bucket has to offer.

Summary: A straightforward pale ale worth a try if you get a chance.

Rating 3.5
